Gen-X, Gen-Z – do you get them all confused!? – you don’t care? If your employees or target market spans across multiple generations, it’s time to pay attention and take a closer look.
Why Should You Pay Attention?
If your employees represent multiple generations, each group has different values and motivations and prefers different management styles and methods of communication. This has been amplified post-pandemic.
Asynchronous (async) work includes employees wanting more flexibility, better work-life balance and reduced burnout / stress. Async removes the pressure of in-person or live video meetings, so employees have a safer environment to share their opinion.
66% of knowledge workers and 72% of Gen-Z workers feel more confident sharing their ideas and opinions with their managers asynchronously.
For younger workers just starting their careers, async can really help them have a voice, and share a fresh new perspective or approach, when they might normally stay quiet in a meeting setting.
Recognize that newcomers and veterans face different challenges. Understand the reasons behind disconnection to tailor your solution.
Understand each employee and generation and what they want. The “wants” change more frequently for some generations vs. others.
Do not assume that your management team knows how to change their thinking, stereotypes and approach, and create “connectedness” in the “new” multigenerational world. Even “leaders” need coaching – invest in your management team.
The good news – if a multigenerational team is managed properly, the synergistic benefits can be extremely powerful to the strategic success of the organization.
Pay attention to each generation and the human elements, to build a dynamic and productive culture and make your sales strategy soar.
